Sustainability
GUILD & GODDESS
Made Thoughtfully. Every Step of the Way.
Our commitment to craft, community, and conscience
OUR APPROACH
We will not call Guild & Goddess a sustainable brand. That word has been used so freely, by so many, that it has lost most of its meaning.
What we will say is this: every decision we make — from the materials we choose, to the hands that make each piece, to the paper it is wrapped in — is made with care. We ask questions. We choose slowly. We improve continuously. This page is our honest account of where we are, what we do, and what we are still working toward.
THE HANDS
Keeping a Living Craft Alive
Every Guild & Goddess earring is handcrafted by skilled artisans in the metalworking communities of Nepal — craftspeople who have inherited techniques passed down through generations. By choosing to make here, we are not simply outsourcing production. We are choosing to be part of a tradition that deserves to continue.
Our artisans are paid fairly for their skill. We work in small batches — never pushing volume at the expense of quality or the wellbeing of the people making each piece. The hammer marks and subtle variations you see in our jewellery are not inconsistencies. They are the signatures of the individuals who made them.
THE PROCESS
Small by Design. Not by Limitation.
We produce in small batches — deliberately. Not because we cannot scale, but because we believe the best things should not be rushed. Small batch production means every piece receives full attention at every stage. It means we do not overproduce and discard. It means waste is minimised not as a policy, but as a natural consequence of working carefully.
In an industry where overproduction is one of the leading causes of waste, making less — and making it well — is itself a form of responsibility.
THE MATERIALS
Chosen for Beauty and Conscience
Material selection is one of the most consequential decisions a jewellery brand makes. We approach it with that weight in mind.
We use lab-grown moissanite and lab-created diamonds alongside carefully sourced natural gemstones such as lapis lazuli and onyx, obtained through trusted suppliers. Lab-grown stones are physically and chemically identical to mined stones — and their production avoids the environmental destruction and human rights concerns that have long plagued the mining industry.
We are transparent about what we use and why. If you ever want to know more about a specific stone in a specific piece, ask us. We will tell you everything we know.
THE PACKAING
Wrapped in Something That Matters
Our packaging is made from lokta paper — a traditional Nepalese material crafted from the bark of the Daphne plant, which grows wild in the Himalayas and regenerates naturally without being destroyed in harvesting, and recycled papers.
The lokta paper we use is made by women-led artisan groups in Nepal. Choosing this packaging is not just an environmental decision — it is an economic one. It supports women's employment, preserves a traditional craft, and keeps more value within the communities that make our jewellery possible.
Every Guild & Goddess piece arrives wrapped in something made by human hands, with intention. Because the experience of receiving it should reflect the care that went into making it.
WHAT WE ARE STILL WORKING ON
We Are Not Perfect. Here Is What We Know.
We believe the most trustworthy thing a young brand can do is tell you not just what it does well, but where it is still growing. We do not yet have independent third-party certification for our supply chain. We are a small brand working to build those relationships as we grow, and we would rather tell you that honestly than claim credentials we have not yet earned.
We do not yet carbon-offset our shipping. International shipping has an environmental cost, and we are actively researching the most meaningful — not just the most convenient — way to address it. We use brass as our primary metal, which involves mining. We chose brass for its workability and its centuries-long tradition in Nepali metalcraft, and we are exploring alternatives as part of our ongoing material research.
Sustainability, for us, is not a destination. It is a direction. And we will keep reporting honestly on where we are along the way.
THE COMMUNITY
Beyond the Earring
Every purchase of a Guild & Goddess piece does more than bring a beautifully made object into your life. It contributes to the livelihoods of the artisans in Nepal who made it, the women who produced its packaging, and the communities that have sustained these crafts for generations.
We are not a charity. We are a brand that believes business done carefully is one of the most powerful tools for community support that exists. When craft has a market, craft survives. When artisans have buyers, artisans thrive.
That is the kind of brand we are trying to be.
Our Promise is Simple
We will always tell you what our jewellery is made of, who made it, and how. We will always choose the more thoughtful option when we have a choice. And we will always be honest with you about where we are on this journey — including the parts we have not figured out yet.
